On June 1st, the Foundation for Belmont Education received a proclamation from the Town of Belmont recognizing their 25th anniversary and reaching a fundraising milestone of $3.6 million awarded to the Belmont Public Schools.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS: The Foundation of Belmont Education (FBE) of Belmont is a non-profit educational foundation and
WHEREAS: for the past 25 years, the FBE has succeeded in its continuing mission to enrich the educational experience of Belmont Public School students by providing programs, equipment, teacher support, and educational experiences beyond those that could be funded by the Town’s budget; and
WHEREAS: with the generous support of businesses and members of the community, the grants that the FBE funds directly impact every child in every classroom in the Belmont Public Schools; and
WHEREAS: the FBE has awarded more than $3.6 million for more than 750 grants in support of innovative curricula, enrichment, technology, special initiatives, and professional development; and
WHEREAS: the FBE has planned and led numerous events to benefit the six Belmont Public Schools through its fundraising efforts including its Spring Fundraiser and Auction, Spelling Bee, STAR Awards, Dan Scharfman Memorial Run, and Annual Appeal; and
WHEREAS: the FBE has funded many projects through generous community support of its capital campaigns such as the Friends of Science, the SMART Board T3 Campaign, and the Innovative Teaching Initiative; and
WHEREAS: the FBE annually honors the extraordinary contributions made by teachers in the Belmont Public Schools with the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards and the S. Warren Farrell Award for Educational Excellence; and
WHEREAS: the FBE’s support of the Belmont Public Schools has helped make it possible for the Belmont Public Schools to be ranked among the best in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS: the FBE has now earned the distinction of celebrating its 25th anniversary as the educational foundation for the Town of Belmont; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Belmont joins with the Town in paying tribute to the FBE for this outstanding achievement. You have set a high standard of commitment and dedication which the youth of our Town may follow and serve as an inspiration to the citizens of the Town of Belmont.
