The Foundation for Belmont Education is pleased to announce the appointment of five members of the Belmont community to serve terms on the FBE’s Program Committee.
Hannah Fischer, Belmont High School Liaison
Hannah E. Fischer is a mother of two children in the Belmont Public Schools – Chenery Middle School and Belmont High School. She works as a freelance editor and writer and, prior to moving to Belmont, she served as an Associate Director of the New America Foundation, a public policy think tank in Washington, DC. Ms. Fischer has served for seven years on the board of the FBE, five of those as VP of Marketing and Communications. She also holds board positions with the Belmont Food Pantry, the Friends of the Belmont Public Library, and the Belmont Library Foundation.
Wenhong Liu, Science Liaison
Wenhong Liu moved to Belmont in 2013 and has two daughters who attend the Burbank elementary school. Over the years, Wenhong has volunteered for Burbank PTA, FBE’s Spelling Bee and Apple Run, and coordinated the Belmont Super team to participate in the New England Kids Triathlon. Wenhong has an MS degree in Nutrition and Actuarial Science and currently works for Takeda Pharmaceutical Company.
Greg Carter, Winn Brook Liaison
Greg Carter has lived in Belmont since 2017 and has two daughters at Winn Brook Elementary. He has recently volunteered for the annual FBE fundraiser and has helped out during various fundraising events at Winn Brook and Butler. Greg, a graduate of Tufts University, works at Apple and had lived in San Francisco for the previous 18 years. However the desire for a strong public education for his kids brought the Tewksbury native back to Massachusetts.
Ben Cornett, Wellington Liaison
Ben Cornett has two daughters at Wellington Elementary, where he has served as a member of the PTO Executive Board. He volunteers for the Belmont Soccer Association and the Everett C. Benton community library. Ben grew up in Virginia and moved to Belmont in 2005. He has a doctorate in chemistry from Emory University.
Edward Monovich, Music and Fine Arts Liaison
Edward Monovich moved to Belmont in 2004. He has a daughter who recently graduated from BHS, a son currently enrolled at BHS and a daughter at Chenery Middle School. Edward is a professional artist and educator. His art/science collaborations with the University of Zürich and the Alpine Research Institute in Gran Paradiso National Park have led to ongoing research projects and exhibitions in Switzerland, Austria, Italy and the US. Edward teaches drawing and 4-dimensional media at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. In addition, he hosts public drawing events at the Massart Museum and curates exhibitions for the Brant Gallery. One of his favorite activities is volunteering with his giant therapy dog “Ueli.” He received a BA in biology and art from Kalamazoo College and an MFA in painting from the University of Texas at Austin.
