History of the Run
The first annual FBE fall run was held in October 2013 and was named the Dan Scharfman Memorial Run in honor of Dan Scharfman, a pillar of the Belmont community. Mr. Scharfman was an elected member of the Belmont School Committee and Belmont Town Meeting, and was a tireless advocate for the Belmont Public Schools.
In 2019, at the request of the Scharfman family, the Run name was altered to solely focus on education in Belmont. The Run is now called the FBE Apple Run – Belmont Runs for Education!
About The Race
The FBE Apple Run is a fun morning of running that includes both a 5K race and a companion 1 mile run. Proceeds from the races fund the Foundation for Belmont Education.
The FBE Apple Run 5K (USATF MA13031JK) follows a scenic, 5-kilometer route through Belmont. Starting and ending at the Belmont High School track on Concord Avenue, the course passes by four of the town’s six public schools and the historic Payson Park Reservoir. The course ends back at the Belmont High School track. Total length: 5K.
The FBE Apple Run 1 Mile Race has a new course layout, which will be a flat, looping course beginning at the Belmont High School track, looping through the Belmont playing fields on Concord Avenue, and finishing back at the track. This is more of a cross country style run across the grassy fields and is suitable for runners/walkers of all ages and abilities. If you have very young children, a jogging stroller may work better on the grassy fields.
